Wise Owl's Founder — Carrie Meurer

Carrie grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and then attended the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where she majored in architecture. After graduating she worked at several well-known architecture firms. Her specialties were residential custom home design and converting historic warehouses into high-end lofts.

In the spring of 2000, she relocated to San Francisco. It was there that Carrie landed a job just a few blocks from her Mission District apartment. She worked at an internet start-up called 415, Inc. It was your typical dot-com — dogs in the office, "wine and cheese" Fridays and great high-profile clients. Needless to say, Carrie loved this job, but the best part was that she was learning valuable new skills while having so much fun in a creative fast-paced environment. It was a turning point in her career, moving from architecture to web development.

The collapse of the dot-com era closed down the company, but the tight-knit 415 clan kept in touch and collaborated on many contract projects. It was at this transitional time that Carrie teamed up with her sister in Madison to form Concrete Creative, a graphic design and web development company. Some of Carrie's programming clients include a family-run winery, a culinary institute, an immigration museum, a social networking site and an investment management firm.

Loving the outdoorsy lifestyle, and feeling a tug to be closer to the Midwest again, Carrie decided to move to Denver, Colorado. It was at this time that Wise Owl was created. After Carrie's husband started his own staffing company, she and a former 415 colleague developed the Advocate Staffing website. She got to work optimizing the site, so it would appear near the top of the Google results pages for specific keywords. In only a matter of weeks, website was on page one for the keywords! Carrie enjoyed implementing her SEO techniques and decided to offer her services to a few of her existing Concrete Creative clients. They took her up on her offer and now, Wise Owl is a full-blown SEO company offering search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) services to companies in Denver, San Francisco, Madison, and around the country.

Carrie continues to program for Concrete Creative and while she loves the variety of work that both companies provide, she also loves to take time to explore Colorado!
